Mad Pride in Australia -- September 14 2010
The MADPride 2010 TheMHS consumer day concert will be held on 14 September 2010 at Darling Harbour Convention and Exhibition Centre. If the 2008 Melbourne attendance (669) is a guide we are in for a fabulous time.
 Mad Pride events are opportunities to reclaim stigmatized language and to celebrate Mad Culture. They bring passion, hope and comical relief as both the content and process builds communities.
Arana is the Australasian Director for Mad Pride and he offers to work in partnership in supporting event co-ordination and management, with a community development focus. He is also a highly talented musician who performs throughout Australasia. For more information on Mad Pride visit our website.
Valuing Mad-ness Language began in Australasia with the Consumer Run Conference in Adelaide where "I'm just a little Mad" song was written in 1998. Arana recorded that song and began performing it throughout Australasia in 1999. Concerts have already been successfully sponsored in Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Rotorua, Lower Hutt and several events held in Wellington.
An event held late in 2004 celebrated the life of long time campaigner for human rights in New Zealand: Arnold Brooker. Key performers included Shona Laing and Mahinarangi Tocker.
We performed at Yale University international mental health conference in 2005.

NEXT YEAR 2011 watch for Mad Pride Train ride in Melbourne. ...details to follow. ALSO Mardi Angelopoulos of the Dual Diagnosis Team South Sydney Youth Services will be organising another Mad Pride youth event in 2011. Mardi and the team there have organised annual events in Sydney now since 2007 where over 350 youth celebrate youth Mad Pride culture. Mardi and the team are recipients of the Keepwell Award for excellence this year in recognition of their sustained work with youth to support the development of contribution to Australian Youth Mad Pride.
